Puryear Farms

Our Farm

Home of both sides of the border

The rolling hills of the Piedmont region on the border of Virginia and North Carolina provide the natural resources for our cattle: from well-tended pasture land and hayfields to corn raised to provide the finishing touch to our products.  The homeplace of Puryear Farms strides the border of VA/NC about 1 hour north of Raleigh, NC and 2 hours southwest of Richmond, VA.

Our Story

Raising Cattle Responsibly Since the Revolutionary War

IMG_0852_edited.jpg

As far as we can tell, our farm began when John Puryear received a land grant from Great Britain in 1753.  John, his brother Samuel, and other siblings were possibly grandchildren of a very small number of French Huguenots who came to the colonies in the 1640s.

John granted and later sold portions of the land to his brother Samuel.  Samuel’s farm seems to be the beginnings of what is now our farm.   Samuel and many of his relatives were listed as “Patriots” by the Revolutionary Army for donating beef and horses to the cause. Through the following 10 generations, the Puryear family has continued the tradition of honoring the land and producing high quality, responsibility raised products.
